Villa Eleni Douliana Crete
Villa Eleni is a traditional-style Cretan family holiday villa with modern style and comfort. Beautifully built in 2003 to our specification by a well known Chania architect, it lies at the edge of the quiet and friendly village of Douliana, near Vamos. It is just 35 minutes easy drive eastwards from Chania Airport, two hours from Heraklion. Both are well served by charter flights during the summer season, and by scheduled flights all year via main Greek cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki.
In the villa there is an impressive array of equipment, especially kitchen tools, crockery and glasses. The quality of the furniture is unusual in a reasonably priced Cretan holiday villa. This is not a “build to let” house, it is our home in Crete. We spent many years spending our holidays in tourist accommodation in Greece before building our own home, so we were able to incorporate all the features we sometimes found lacking in those years, such as British standard plumbing, comfortable and supportive beds and sofas, plentiful wardrobe space, well equipped kitchen and a reliable supply of hot water. Not forgetting central heating and an open fire for cooler nights during early or late holidays.
The villa has a private infinity pool, beautiful gardens, and an uninterrupted view down to the Cretan Sea. An ideal Cretan villa for four people, idyllic for two, it has been surpassing the expectations of our guests every season since 2003.
A family holiday at Villa Eleni compares favourably with the cost of hotel accommodation. Our price is for the villa, not per person. You will be in a comfortable house with your own pool and private garden, undisturbed by hotel guests and their mobile phones or extrovert children. Except for the usual Greek mixture of dogs barking, cockerels crowing and the sound of sheep bells on the hillside, Villa Eleni is usually peaceful.
An energetic ramble in the old olive terraces below the house will delight the senses, with the scent of bay and pine from the trees as you brush past, or thyme and other herbs underfoot. In early Spring the terraces are home to many wild flowers, including scores of tiny bee orchids, so tiny and delicate as to be spotted only by the patient and sharp-eyed explorer of the terraces. The wild vegetation provides a home for badgers and the Cretan marten, which are sometimes glimpsed by our quiet, night-owl visitors. This is our own secluded nature reserve. We consider it a responsibility to care for it without damaging its wild nature.
Designed to be occupied in both summer and winter, the house has free air-conditioning, central heating and FREE WiFi.
Our Greek home, with very personal charm and atmosphere, nestles in olive and pine trees at the head of a green valley that slopes down to the sea giving a verdant outlook at all times of the year- a rarity in Crete. The spectacular panoramic view down to the Cretan Sea from the terraces at the front of the house and near the crystal clear, tropical blue infinity pool is unforgettable. Within easy reach of several good beaches, it is an ideal location for your Greek island holiday.
